Introducing the DT500 Power Monitor
This easy to use instrument can help you to save money on your
electric bill by determining the actual cost of electricity in dollars used
by single appliances. For example, refrigerators, freezers, air
conditioners, heat strips, hot water heaters, lights, dryers, ovens, pumps,
motors, etc. Refrigerators and freezers for example, can vary from $5 to $50
per month depending on the age and efficiency of the appliance and the local
cost of electricity. Air conditioners can vary as much as ten percent per
degree of temperature setting. Hot water heaters can use twice as much
electricity at one setting over another. This instrument will help you to
determine when to replace an appliance or at what setting to adjust the
appliance.
Determining the cost of electricity can be as simple as plugging an
appliance into the receptacle at the back of the DT500 and turning on the
start switch. The DT500 will immediately begin averaging the power used and
updating the 5 screens of information available to the operator. For
appliances that cycle off/on (such as refrigerators, air conditioners, hot
water heaters), the unit must be left on for a 24 hour period in order to
get an accurate monthly estimate. But for circuits such as lights that are
left on for 24 hours, a monthly estimate is immediately accurate.
The DT500 can also be used to measure the cost of electricity used
for a particular function, like preheating your oven, or heating a cup of
coffee in the microwave oven, or drying a load of clothes, or taking a hot
shower, etc. For appliances that can not be plugged into the
receptacle, a clamp on amp probe is provided that will require the user to
put the probe on the hot wire to the appliance. The unit being tested will
not have to be disconnected.
The DT500 comes complete with a User's Manual, a 400 Amp current
probe, a soft vinyl carrying case, and a 3 year parts and 1 year labor
warranty.
