How does one limit the size of the cache buffer size?

I have an installation with 32 megs of ram and 4 hard drives that total 9
gigabytes. All worked fine for months. I upped the memory to 64 megs and a
week later installed a 2 gig hard drive. By my calculation for a total of
11,400 Meg of disk space I need to following amount of RAM:

.023x11400=262.2/8=32.775 Meg of Ram

I have 64 megs of ram and when I try and mount the new volume I get the
following error:

>MOUNT VOL5
Insufficient memory available to mount volume.
Volume VOL5 NOT mounted
01/15/96 08:15:00am 1.1.39 Cache memory allocator out of available memory.

When I check my server memory stats I see the cahce buffers are using
50,851,840 or 78% of available Ram.

How can I allocate memory to mount new volumes and then allow Novell to use the
rest of the memory for the cache buffers?

I have read the System Admin manual on the subject but I can't seem to find any
entry there about limiting the size, only setting a minimum size.

Thanks in advance.
