FORTY TIMES...

     Perhaps you have noticed the gun-grabbers have come up with a
great new media slogan and every one of them has jumped on it with
one voice.  Head media propagandist Tom Brokaw (cfr) led the charge
on his June 5th "America the Violent" show by seriously intoning:
"FACT! The odds are better than 40 to 1 that a gun kept in the home
will kill a member of the family or a friend rather than an
intruder."  For emphasis the assertion also appeared written

on the screen (for those of us old enough to have learned to read
in school).  Big wig, John F. Wolf joined the chorus through an
editorial by his minion Robert Smith, Dispatch editor.  "Owners of
handguns give as their chief reason for owning one 'protection from
crime,' but gun owners kill themselves and family members 43 times
as often as they shoot down a criminal at home," the Dispatch said.
     Can't you see the potential gun buyer thinking: Gosh, I was
going to protect my family but it is forty times more likely this
gun will kill them instead.  This is devilishly clever propaganda.
First of all how could this "fact" possibly be true?  According to
the 1992 NRA "FACT CARD" there were 1,501 firearm accidents in 1990
and 30,800 suicides and 25,700 homicides and legal interventions
(such as self-defense) of which the latter two categories involved
firearms about 60% of the time.  This gives a grand total of about
35,400 "deaths by gun."  This figure agrees with that often quoted
by anti-gunners, but they usually imply to the public that this
many persons are murdered by guns since when someone say so-many
people were killed with guns, your mind doesn't think the figure is
including those who killed themselves.  As you can see by the
figures, the propaganda effect is to make the murder rate sound
more than twice as large as it really is.
     Also note that when someone says you are 40 times more likely
to "kill a member of the family or friend," your mind automatically
thinks of accidentally shooting someone.  You don't stop and
consider they are really talking about shooting yourself.  After
all, while committing suicide may prove you are not your own best
friend, you are still a member of your own family.  In actual fact,
you can see by the figures gun accidents are a drop in the bucket
compared to other causes of "gun death" and in truth have actually
declined 25% from 1960 to 1989 according to the National Safety
Council.
     Now, consider homicide.  Anti-gunners claim that half of all
homicides are perpetrated on family members and acquaintances (NOT
friends!).  These figures are probably true, but you must
understand that family members includes the husband who regularly
feloniously assaults his wife and one day (because she can't get
protection from the courts) builds up to killing her.  It includes
the estranged wife who decides "that S.O.B. will never get my kids"
and fills her husband full of lead.  You must understand that
acquaintances include fellow drug dealers, opposing gang members
and criminal "business" associates who are regularly dispatched by
each other in the course of making a living at the expense of the
law-abiding public.  None of these persons are law-abiding gun
owners.  Nevertheless, we now subtract the half of the homicides
where the persons were not known to each other and we get 27,690
"family members and acquaintances" killed by guns using this
twisted logic.
     Of the Homicide figure, 3% involves killing of criminals by
police and 10% represents criminals killed by civilians. Thus, in
1990, about 1,542 criminals were killed by gun owners.  So even
using the warped thinking of the anti-gunners it is only about 18
times more likely that your gun will kill an "acquaintance" or a
"family member" than a criminal.  So where does this "FACT" of 43
times come from?  This could only be true if they mean that the
criminal had to be killed in your own home!  (The Dispatch did say
"at home") I would guess it is possible that maybe half the
self-defense killings actually happened in the home.
     But now let's look at what a real insult this propaganda is to
honest gun owners.  Not only are they being lumped in with
criminals and gang members and suicides, but left unsaid is the
real protection that firearms offer.  Maybe John F. Wolfe has no
moral problem with murdering a rival newspaper for financial gain
or murdering an intruder to defend himself, but honest righteous,
law-abiding citizens do.  Studies have estimated that 645,000 times
a year armed citizens stop crime.  Thus, about the same number of
crimes are thwarted as are perpetrated.  Therefore at minimum, the
banning of firearms ownership would at least double the crime rate
(those crimes now stopped would be perpetrated). Actually crime
would probably skyrocket to a much greater value because of
increased job safety for criminals.  But you don't need to shoot a
criminal to get protection with a gun.  Property owners in
California didn't need to gun down Crips and Bloods to save their
stores and lives.  Thus, the honest person's own morality is very
cleverly being turned against him.  Unlike in the media, where any
threat is just ended in a hail of lead, the moral, ethical,
righteous gun owner doesn't care if it were a thousand times more
likely that guns killed someone other than an intruder because that
means it would be that much less likely that he would have to kill
a criminal intruder himself.  He wants to stop the crime not kill
someone!
     But this still doesn't get to the real issues of "gun
Control".  And by gun control I mean the total direct control of
all firearms by those in power.  According to the Guiness Book of
World Records the greatest mass murders of all time did not occur
in Texas or New York, but rather in China, USSR, Germany and
Cambodia.  From 1949 to 1965 Mao killed a minimum of 26.3 million
Chinese (The Senate Walker Report estimated it as high as 61.7
million) or at least 1.64 million murders per year.  According to
Alexander Solzhenitsyn 40 million Soviets were murdered from 1917
to 1959 or 1.58 million per year.  By comparison Nazi Germany is a
runner up with 5.8 million killed between 1941 and 1945 or 1.45
million per year.  The record belongs to Pol Pot of Cambodia with
8 million killed in 4 years from 1975 to 1979 or 2 million murders
per year.  All of these figures refer to government killings and
none include war dead.
     So what does this have to do with our country?  Well just
maybe you never heard of Wall Street's financial support of the
Bolshevik Revolution* and connections through guys like the late
Armand Hammer that still continue.  Maybe you never heard of Wall
Street's financial and technical support of Hitler* even during the
war.  Maybe you don't know of the U.S. backing of Pol Pot and his
boys that continues to this day.  And I am sure you do know that
some of the same rich and powerful men who backed these
mass-murdering regimes have their fingers all over OUR government.
So with 35,400 "deaths by gun" per year in our country now, and
with the average government genocide about 1.5 million citizens per
year, the bottom line is this:
FACT: If you give up your guns, the odds are 42 times greater you
will be murdered by your own government than to be killed by a gun
for any other reason, if you keep them.  This is something our
Founding Fathers understood when they wrote the Second Amendment.
