The previous poster was talking about primary light colors: red,
green and blue; so named because beams of these colors combined make
pure white light. Which would be what Gerald meant by "primary light".
And in terms of light (physics) green is not a considered a
combination of blue and yellow. Why not? JP posts that yellow is a
combination of green and red. So if green is a combination of blue and
yellow, what you are actually saying is that green is a combination of
blue, and green and red already combined. So green may be what you get
when you combine a light with a blue gel with a light with a yellow
gel, but it is kind of silly to call it a combination when 1/4 of the
mix is the color itself.
I *think* the point of calling green, red and blue primary light
colors is that you can't combine 2 other colors to make one of those
colors unless one of the colors you are combining is itself a
combination of two other colors.
So now you know what "primary light" is, and that Gerald is not the
only person who can be mistaken.
And in answer to the original question, Chris from Cambridge emailed me
and said that red, yellow and blue light combined would make a
reddish-white light.
He also said that little of this has anything to do with rowing. And
he's right. Can we bury the thread now?
