The story I was told was that the fatality was caused by one of the elevators
(there are two, adjacent) slowing down unexpectedly for a floor and hence the
jumper misjudging. Alcohol was involved in this, reportably.

Notwithstanding someone sliced to death, they still were playing this game.
Maybe still are.

Rumor is that there was at least one fatality where an innocent student
fell into an elevator-less shaft. This in the '70s.

UMass *BOSTON*, according to their student newspaper, had a 1993 injury when
an elevator fell up, bouncing someone off the roof. He was injured.

Boston's Statenstall building (government offices) had someone get a foot
stuck between the elevator and the wall somehow. This in the '90s.
