If anyone is interested in database management systems under Unix, there is a relational DBMS called MISTRESS which runs under Onix, Xenix, and Unix version 6, 7, or PWB, on any PDP-11 or LSI-11/23. MISTRESS has been developed by Rhodnius Incorporated, a company whose principals include John Kornatowski and Ivor Ladd, the major authors of Univ. of Toronto's MRS database system. MISTRESS features an English-like query language (a subset of SEQUEL II), a variety of data types including date and dollar, interfaces to C and the Unix shell, interactive creation of tables and entry/update/deletion of data as well as bulk entry of data, and a built-in line editor for correcting mistakes in entering query language commands or entering/updating data. Documentation available is: i) Principles of Operation; ii) The Query Language iii) Host-language Interface; iv) Application Examples; v) Beginner's Guide; and vi) Installation Guide. The price of MISTRESS is $5K commercial, $2.5K educational, which includes 1 year's support. Copies of the Principles Of Operation, a good general overview of the system, price list, software licence, and documentation order form are available on request. For more information, contact: Rhodnius Inc., P.O. Box 1, Station D, Scarborough, Ontario, CANADA M1R 4Y7 (416) 922-1743
