Dear MicroServe customer,
MicroServe is in the process of making several changes to improve
and add service. We are adding new WWW pages so that commercial customers
can check line utilization and backlog-news status, adding WWW pages to
keep all customers informed as what is new and up-and-coming. Below is a
listing of where you can find the lastest info as well as a few urgent
messages regarding some problems we are currently experiencing.
1) Conjestion Problems
2) New news servers info.
3) WWW pages.
4) MIS is an NSP and Colocation
5) Expanded coverage area.
CONJESTION PROBLEMS:
Recently MicroServe has been experiencing severe conjestion in the
Harrisburg area and noticable conjestion problems in the NEPA area.
Several months ago, MIS began to build-out several new high-speed pops and
lines to avoid this, however the load and conjestion approached slightly
faster than expected. Philadelphia customers were moved to a new digital
pop several weeks ago, and although new access lines have not been brought
up yet, problems around philly seem to be almost null. (Yet, we are
still bringing up more bandwidth)
To relieve these problems, several new routers have been
installed and new lines have been turned-up. The largest improvements to
Harrisburg will take place over the next few days. Wilkes-Barre
improvements will begin over the next few days and end in a few weeks.
Yesterday, while turning up a new DS3 in Philadelphia, we experienced a
major router failure. This failure has not directly affected any customer
lines, however it is affecting much backbone traffic. Slow and Strange
routing patters will be seen into tomorrow morning when we will be
replacing the faulty equiptment and turning one of the new-high speed
lines. Some customers may have noticed a significant speed increase
yesterday between 1 and 4 before the hardware failed. We apologize for
the inconvience.
NEWS INFO:
On another note, Microserve has just completed building several
new news servers. Customers that receive news feeds from us may notice
that your machines are having a hard time keeping up, please let our news
admin know if we are feeding you news too fast; A FULL FEED NOW TAKES
CLOSE TO 2/3 OF a T1 and is 10GB/Day. You can mail
news@admin.microserve.net for more info.
Microserve has just completed building a new monster
news-reader, our beta testers say it clearly beats many of the 3rd party
news companys out there (Zippo, newsfarm, newsnow...). MIS is trying to
be very competitive pricing news-access from this server. If you
are already using MIS for news-reading, then expect a significant change
from our current news-reader. MIS would like to keep news
in-house, freeing bandwidth for applications that need to be from the rest
of the net. If you are interested in testing or purchasing news-access
from MIS (for your company, or your down-stream customers), contact
news@admin.microserve.net. (For those of you running your own
news-servers, you may find that it is more economical to use MIS's
news-readers than maintain your own in-house server).
WWW info page:
MIS is currently re-constructing our info WWW page. This page
currently lists outage reports, but will shortly have several messages
from myself and Joe Valenti regarding changes in the network, new services
and general info. The new page will also have the current system status
and event listings. This new page should be active within 1 week. The
url is http://www.microserve.net/info.
MIS is also adding NOC (Network Operations Center) pages to allow
commercial customers to check critical info such as line utilization
graphs and news-backlog graphs. We will note the completion of this on
www.microserve.net/info as well as a message similar to this. Also note
that www.microserve.net/info will cover many more topics, much deeper than
these messages.
MicroServe is a NSP.
MIS is in the process of changing our classification from an ISP
to an NSP. NSP is a Network Service Provider, providing intranets,
extranets, VPN's as well as internet (ISP). Please contact us for more
info.
