What do you want to do? If you want to learn object-oriented (oo)
Programming and don't want to care about memory allocation (which I
think is a good idea) try Python as a Script Language and better you
try Eiffel. You get a free compiler called SmallEiffel or an older
version of SIG Eiffel-Compiler. Take a look at
http://www.rhein-neckar.de/~cetus/software.html for more information
about oo-stuff

If you want to programm for WWW maybe Perl is the best choice.

Eiffel Syntax just a week. Good oo-Programming a lot more time.

At the University development of OR-Software. Private with EPWL for
Windows-Programming.

Do you have a problem you like to solve by programming. Then try it
with that. If you don't have any special goal, get a good book about
the programming language and try to learn it by reading and trying.

For Eiffel there are a lot of good books out for Python you have to
try a Nutshell-Book called Python. Very thick book but IMO good
written.

Hope this helps

Till then and good luck
