However, I think that for a >beginner it is better to start with an "easy" language like VB and move on >to more complicated ones like C++ and Assembler later on. I understand the way you think, but I would have to disagree. Yes, assembler is cryptic if you have learned something else before. But if you start with assembler, get a "ground up" book and a interupt list, I would have to say assembler is pretty easy. No advanced structures, no function overloading and stuff like that. just resgisters and interupts. I have actually come to the conclusion that assembler is quite simple, if you understand the basics like bytes, words, segments and stuff. :) You -CAN- do complicated things with assembler, but you wont do that as a beginner anyway. Lets say it takes you 4 months longer to become a decent programer in asm then in VB. Once you know asm, you know so much more then any VB programmer would. Most (who do it on a hobby basis) dont know anything about how the memory is built, what an interrupt is and so on.. >About VB. I disagree. Well, I think the hardest part about programing is usually the makeing the gui. Its not much problem to sort lists, make a vector and all that.. :) I find that what I use most of my time on, is making the gui. with VB you eliminate most contact the user have with videomemory / vesadrivers and all, so , as a rule - I would say VB makes bad programmers. You are ofcourse entitled to disagree. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Kim Robert Blix ( kblix@sn.no & http://home.sn.no/~kblix ) "How do you shoot the devil in the back?"
