Can I hear comments >from my State University Brothers? Which do YOU think it is? >:) :) :) Oh PLEASE!!!!!! REAL Universities????? Goes to show what they teach at private colleges - pathetic pretentiousness! First of all, you were very lucky not to have to "Look" for a scholarship, don't ever go to grad school or you'll find out that one must ALWAYS go begging for money - it's just done in different ways. Ok, the guy begging from strangers was pretty sad - he should 1) get a better part-time job than Burger King, 2) sell his car, 3)go looking through the loads of financial aid books for scholarships. But as for your pathetic reply, I see all you learned at private school was to to look down your nose at those less fortunate. While "state" schools vary in quality, so do private schools. I went to the University of California, and found it to be a REAL University, also an introduction to the real world, where students aren't pampered (unless they've got rich parents, which I don't). As for private schools, I am now at Yale as a grad student. 1) it is FAR from the "REAL" world. 2) as a grad student and an academic, one must constantly write grants (ie "beg" for money) to get your research funded. It never ends unless you go into private business where you don't have to beg as along as you push sales. 3) at $20K + per year tuition the undergrads pay, I feel I got a total bargain at the UC (<$2000 per year). I often hear from people here who went to Princeton, Harvard, Yale as undergrdas who say " If I went to a state school, I would've gotten better grades." WRONG! At Yale, an average is given as a "B", and very few fail, not because they are superior, Yale just sets its curve higher. In comparison, at a UC, an average grade (ie the mean of the test scores) is given a "C", allowing a fair amount to fail or retake the class. An "A" is very hard to get, even a B is not so easy. Same type of exam, just a decision by the faculty on how to set the grading. If the IVY league is any example, then private universities are no more "real" than any state school!
