I would like to know if it is possible to have mail with a certain subject
line forwarded to and application... a perl script for example that would
grap what ever is attached to the message and parse it for information. I
have a use for this but I am not sure where to look to get information about
how to do it. I have seen good answers to questions like this here in the
past and I am hoping to number myself along with those who have been helped.

Thanks in advance,
Lonnie

This sounds like a job for procmail. A recipe to put into your
.procmailrc would be something along the lines of

:0:<lockfile_name_goes_here>
*^Subject: <regular_expression_goes_here>
| <program_plus_arguments_goes_here>

(Depending on how the command line to invoke your program is written,
you may be able to use the default lock file name rather than specifying
one explicitly as I have shown. See "man procmailrc" for details)

Please log on to waltz and do a "man a2i-procmail" command to see
how to set up and use procmail here at a2i; the instructions given
there are different from a vanilla procmail installation as given in
"man procmail" because of the way the nojunk filtering system works here
and because of the non-standard location of the procmail binary
(among other things).

Generic procmail documentation on how to set up a .procmailrc file
can be found on any of the Unix shell systems here under "man
procmailrc" and "man procmailex" (for examples of how to do particular
kinds of things).
