"Internet literacy urged for teens" Summary: The social impact of computers has been huge recently, and effected many areas of our everyday activities. Canadas leading technology sectors are now proposing a call of action for a new commitment to doing business on the Internet. In a report written by a committee of leading technological executives, they stated that they want students to pass an Internet literacy course before graduating and are also proposing to create tax cuts. Both of these actions are necessary to seize the opportunity for Canada to become the worlds leading per capita e-business leader. Without moving fast enough, Canada may become "laggard" in the new economy. The report also labels three blocks to Canadas growth in the industry which include the complacency of existing businesses toward e-business, the absence of e-business groups and the lack of capital and higher taxes. Thus the technological committee also proposes to develop Canada as a brand identity in e-commerce, which Canadian companies could leverage to compete in the global economy. By using tax incentives and the creation of a corps of students to help merchants do on line business they would accelerate the transformation of existing e-commerce companies. Canadian technology leaders agree and support that e-business is a serious matter with immense economical potential.
