Did you know that if you're a Canadian, you may not be entitled to
your spouse's pension when he or she dies? 

New secret laws dictate that if you're more than an undisclosed
number of years younger than your spouse,
or if you're earning more than an undisclosed amount of income, you
don't qualify.

According to an article in the Calgary Herald on June 7th, (Page B9)
a young woman (Nancy Law)  was denied her husband's Canada pension
when he died, because of these new secret laws.   The woman was 30
years old, childless, and had been married for 11 years.

She was upset, claiming that if she had been living with a lesbian
partner, she would've qualified.

Does anyone know what the law says with regard to the exact number
of years in age a "heterosexual" must be to collect pension, and the
amount of income he/she must be earning?  Also, does anyone know
when these changes were enacted in parliament?

Or are these decisions all kind of a "whim of the day" thing now.
