Telus offer to educators for free Internet access

As most school administrators know, Telus is supposedly providing a grant
to schools for free Internet access through the Telus Foundation.

If a school is approved by Alberta Education, and acquires a 56Kb or
greater connection speed to the Internet, then the school is eligible for
the grant, for which an application on behalf of the school should have
already been received by Telus.

There was some initial confusion, however, that the Telus offer meant that
the school or schoolboard must connect using the AGT Planet Internet
service only.

Telus is now saying that that is simply not the case. As long as the
school follows the above guidelines, the school may connect to ANY
Internet Service Provider.

This is important because some schools want to connect now, and so far, in
the situations of which I am aware, AGT has not been able to provide the
total solution that schoolboards need.

If you have any questions about this program, please let me know and I can
forward to you the appropriate people to contact at Telus or elsewhere who
will help you along.

If you wish to get connected to the Internet through us, we provide access
throughout most of the Province.

Most of the schoolboards already premanently connected to the Internet in
Alberta are connected through our service.

We also maintain the site licence for Surfwatch for schools in Alberta,
and provide special features and services to keep "the bad stuff" out of
schools.

regards
