>>I don't understand the point to this. Netscape has appx. >>80% of the browser market >>and they've written a piece of windows code that runs better than even >>Microsofts best efforts. Whats the point to life in general? Netscape may have 80% of the market currently but they are in serious danger of some big time damage to their share. Internet Explorer 3 is superior to Netscape in all except 2 areas: Java support and Netscape plugin support. Unfortunatley for Netscape, IE 3 will have support for these in beta 2 (a couple of weeks from now). More importantly market forces are starting to move strongly against Netscape as a result of their high and mighty attitude. Isp's all across North America have had up to their necks with Netscape and are signing up on Microsoft's Isp program in droves. Internet Explorer will the browser handed to new users by ISP's because it is free to them. If Netscape does not match MS's ISP program soon, they are in BIG TROUBLE. Only 36% of their revenuve comes from the Server side of the house, the rest comes from Navigator sales. If those sales decline as it appears they will Netscape could be in for a wee bit of cash crunch. I predicted in our last major public conference that IE will have taken #1 position in the Browser market by the end of the year, and now that IE 3.0 is out, I am even more convinced of it. It is simply a better product, and whether you hate MS or not, that's all that matters. With ACTIVEX coming online and Netscape not supporting it , and Microsoft supporting everything Netscape throws out, it appears there may only be 1 browser (Internet Explorer) that can view all pages. But everyone is welcome to their opinion so we have a little vote, and let the online world decide who's best. I think the real interesting question is there going to be any crumbs left for anyone else after Netscape and MS carve up the pie. Dave Reid President CalNet, The Calgary Internet Users Group
