I agree totally, while Microsoft may be in the smaller market in Web Browsing, well let's take a look at where he was say in 1979.. Hmm, looks like he can do what he wants, but now he has money to back him.. (Money to back him as in billions) OK so Netscape refuses to sell. Fine... DIE, it will happen, they don't have the extra cash, and they can't afford to give away their software for free. : Whats the point to life in general? Netscape may have 80% of the market : currently but they are in serious danger of some big time damage to their : share. Internet Explorer 3 is superior to Netscape in all except 2 areas: Java : support and Netscape plugin support. Unfortunatley for Netscape, IE 3 will : have support for these in beta 2 (a couple of weeks from now). More A couple of weeks, that's pushing it, are they that far ahead.. I mean compared to what they had planned was wait until the release in the fall. Man, I get the impression now he's saying "Warp 9, let's slay these buggers". I look at it like this. "Don't have it now, but will have it soon," As for Netscapers.. it's like this "Hey I can do it now, but I'll be joining you in a few months" That's the same storyline I hear from Netscapies.. : importantly market forces are starting to move strongly against Netscape as a : result of their high and mighty attitude. Isp's all across North America have : had up to their necks with Netscape and are signing up on Microsoft's Isp : program in droves. Internet Explorer will the browser handed to new users by : ISP's because it is free to them. If Netscape does not match MS's ISP program : soon, they are in BIG TROUBLE. Only 36% of their revenuve comes from the MS, could blow 2.5-5 Billion a year and not miss it.. Just to wipe out Netscape and own the NET.. AFTER netscape is gone, they own it.. I know they'll charge rates, and they'll make a killing on it.. :) I'll pay for my monies worth wouldn't you.. How many people use Win95, with Netscape 3.0, Atlas, etc... Obviously, you see something of value.. Your OS... Consider this.. Next year your OS will be the Internet... :) : Server side of the house, the rest comes from Navigator sales. If those sales : decline as it appears they will Netscape could be in for a wee bit of cash : crunch. I predicted in our last major public conference that IE will have : taken #1 position in the Browser market by the end of the year, and now that : IE 3.0 is out, I am even more convinced of it. It is simply a better product, : and whether you hate MS or not, that's all that matters. With ACTIVEX coming : online and Netscape not supporting it , and Microsoft supporting : everything Netscape throws out, it appears there may only be 1 browser : (Internet Explorer) that can view all pages. : But everyone is welcome to their opinion so we have a little vote, : and let the online world decide who's best. : To vote: connect to http://www.cadvision.com/calnet : and select the Web Of The Month Vote Page. : >>Are you trying to see maybe who has the venerable title of second best : >>browser ? : I think the real interesting question is there going to be any crumbs left for : anyone else after Netscape and MS carve up the pie. : Dave Reid : President : CalNet, The Calgary Internet Users Group -- Bye.. this was brought to you by: modman@freenet (Cheap sig...)
