PROBLEMS WITH GRABBING TEXT FROM FILE AND THROWING IT INTO RAM FOR QUICK ACCESS

I have a Visual basic program that has to have a textbox-like display
that will scroll through a large text file. I can scroll through the
file using the Open() and InputLine # functions but they read the
file's text straight from the file. Since this file is very big (5
megs or so) reading from the hard disk and displaying to the screen
takes a VERY long time. I got a tip that putting the WHOLE file into
RAM and reading it from there would be a lot faster. How do I throw
the intire contents of a textfile into ram and then display the
contents of the file from there?

I thought of this idea:

PointerToTextFile* TEXT(c:\textfile.txt)
txtWaves.text=TEXT

This is wishful thinking, I know. To tinker around with memory like
that using code, I'm guessing would be more complicated. If you could
set me on the right steps to putting the text file into memory and
then be able to scroll through it smoothly in a text box in run-time,
please tell me how.
