I need to build a LIVE WEB PAGE from a process providing live data to the
end user.

***** ?????? ******
Can you tell me HOW IS A LIVE DATA STREAM FACILITATED OVER THE INTERNET ?
Examples, a live picture, or Real Audio ....

1) What tool/method does the data provider client use to update the local
service provider with live data ?
2) Does the local service provider server require an upload of special
software to provide this service ?
3) Does this require sockets software ? ->Can this be done with JAVA ?
4) Does the data source push the data to the client, or does the client
continuously pole for data ?
5) How is this data buffered on the local service provider server ?

->My understanding of a normal web page is that it is a set of files
(.Html, .gif, etc) uploaded to the local service provider server and then
the web page actually lives there. The client software actually reads
(downloads) those files over the internet, then its browser executes them
to display the web page.
But in a live data situation, the original PC client has to be linked to
its local service provider to continuosly update it with data and this
mechanism (and the tools to develop this) are what I am looking for.

Thank you very much in advance, Ross Cameron , April 8, 98
