Hi, I am working on a set of device drivers, (extending the functionality of some existing ones acutally), and have run into a bit of a snag..... any help appreciated. I am working with the Windows NT/2000 driver development kit. Scenario: I want notification to the user when a particular event occurs at a low level driver (a VxD). I can use SendMessage to notify the user app, but cannot find out how to signal a DLL thread from the VxD. This is what I have tried: I have created an event inside the DLL (using CreateEvent), and then have set up a thread inside the DLL which is waiting for a signal from the VxD, using WaitForSingleObject. Via a call to DeviceIoControl, I have handed the VxD a pointer to this event, which it stores. I have hooked a function inside the VxD which is called at the right time from lower down (this works fine). It calls SetEvent() and returns. Why it doesn't work: To use SetEvent(), I include windows.h in the source code for the VxD. During linking, it is unable to find this function... I am very new to the way the windows2k driver development kit decides what libraries etc it includes during this stage, plus I don't know if what I am doing is _legal_....... Any suggestions? Better methods for signalling the DLL? More suitable newsgroups to speak to? Thanks in advance! Matthew Peacock Final Year Electrical Engineering The University of Melbourne, Australia
