3D Visualization for Programmers

I am a graduate student at the university of New Brunswick. Part of my
preliminary research involves determining "How to use 3D visualization to
enhance productivity among C++ programmers (or programmers in general)". For
example, how could 3D representation of software help in resolving
day-to-day tasks encountered by programmers? Could a 3D graph of a huge C++
program help in determining bottle necks in the software? Could it help in
the implementation, managment processes of the software development? The 3D
visualization I refer to consists of graphs that are composed of Nodes and
Arcs where a node could represent a class, file, variable, etc., and an arc
could similarly define the communication between these objects.

Any feedback, help, direction, on this issue will be greatly appreciated.
