Contract help needed

Hello:

It's my first time going commercial with programming. I have a client and am
trying to prepare a contract. Two questions:

1. Is it standard that the programmer owns the final code and, if so, how is
that stipulated? Are there any pricing ramifications?

2. Is there a standard percentage of the fee that is paid up front? How is
the rest normally paid -- during stages of development or that balance upon
project completion?

any help appreciated.
