1920s.
Dingy storefronts hide shady business. Inside Mom & Pop's Cafe you can see
large
men in bad suits, errm, "discussing insurance" with Pop. Down the street
Lulu
and her girls operate a not-so-classy joint just two blocks from the
precinct
building, but when you see Chief Mallory come whistling out the door you
figure
the only thing Lulu has to worry about is her boss, the boss in the area: at
least until he gets cut down in a hail of Tommy gun fire in one of the
city's
many "business realignments." No, this ain't your Aunt Matilda's SimCity,
that's
for sure, but it can be yours in Eidos' upcoming Gangsters.


NBA LIVE 2000   <game>

Jordan is back!
From a managerial/GM standpoint, the game looks to be on the light side of
the
scale. The game will have several coaching options (altering game tempo,
calling plays, setting match-ups, etc.), but you will not find any career
options or player editing capabilities. As is the case with NFL Fever 2000,
Microsoft is focusing on the gameplay this season. Game options will include
full season (with an All-Star game), exhibition, playoff, and practice
modes.
In practice mode, gamers will be able to go one-on-one with any two NBA
players.

LAS VEGAS - In their heyday during the oil crisis of the late '70's, they
were
household names. By attaching missiles to their cars and taking to the
streets
to fight the rising wave of organized crime in the Texas Panhandle,
"auto-vigilantes" Vixen, Stampede, and Swinger became Western folklore
legends.
Most famous for taking out crime lord Antonio Malochio in 1976, they were
the
stuff of childhood dreams, country music and big-budget Hollywood films. But
half a decade later, where have they gone? The public need for
auto-vigilantes
is at an all-time high. Organized crime is now at its highest level since
the
oil crisis. The drug trade between Las Vegas and the Mexican border is
flourishing, and an increasing number of bandits have begun using auto-felon
gun-cars as a means to transport their shipments of cash and narcotics. The
police are unable to compete with such firepower. The national government
has
its hands full with the Cuban situation and the very real threat that the
Cold
War could soon turn hot. It seems time again for the public to take matters
into our own hands. One of the original and last remaining vigilantes,
code-named "Swinger", disappeared last week-perhaps the victim of the very
drug lords he had been fighting. Could his disappearance mean the end of the
Vigilante movement? Could this be the end of an era, and the beginning of a
new level of violence? If the last of the vigilantes is truly gone, then in
the
words of former County Commissioner Fritz Musseldorf, "it's a sad day for
Las
Vegas."
