Editing searchable text using the "Searchable Image (Exact)" output style

Everything I read indicates that the only way to edit the layer of OCR text is to use the "Formatted Text and Graphics" output style. I want to edit the OCR text that lies behind the image of a scanned document created using the "Searchable Image (Exact)" output style. There are hand-written notes on the scanned documents -- some in the middle of or on top of the text -- that need to be retained. I can't use the "Formatted Text and Graphics" output style in my situation. However, just because what I see is an image doesn't magically make the OCR process perfect; there will still be errors to correct. However, I can't find a way to correct the OCR text behind the image.

Am I just missing something? Is it impossible?
Thanks.
