Printing in Acro 8 takes days. In 6 and Preview minutes.

Printing from Acrobat used to be the only guaranteed form of printing I had, so I stuck with Acrobat religiously. In 6 pages print in seconds. 7 & 8, I have let a page "churn" for a week and still nothing. What is this all about.

CPU same throughout, OS changes, but 6 works great in 10.4-10.5.6 and 8 is the same slow as snails in the OS's. SO it's obvious that it's an Acrobat thing.

What's the problem?

Try fixing permissions. If that doesn't work try resetting the printer
subsytem.

I repair permissions on a regular basis and have reset and recreated printers billions of times and 8 is still a dog.

I needed to print a 97 page document and blindly started with 8. Then it just sits in the printer. Then I remembered I have 6 still on this machine, fired it up and had the whole doc within 5 minutes, including special printing options.

Unfortunately, your suggestion is not a fix-all with Adobe products and not with much of anything anymore. Plus this has been since day one of 8, way back and seems to be what it sends to the printer.

Thanks though.

I just had a brain fart. Does 8 send in PS3? I know Adobe was pushing PS3 there for a while just like it originally pushed PDF's and lost. I'll have to check this out.

Make sure you do not have print as imaged checked.

Thanks for the reply, but nope, not checked. Only used that once a long time ago to get some funky fonts to print.

Looked through the print settings and it is PS2 and nothing else out of the ordinary.

Then what is so different with the PS file between the two? . . .

Your not trying to use the Print Driver for acrobat 6 with 7, 8, or 9?

New versions of acrobat won't work correctly with newer version of Acrobat. But the newer version of the Print Driver will work with old versions of Acrobat. Just new features added after the older version don't work. In other words, if you remove all adobe printers (installed by Acrobat) and just install the newest version of Acrobat you have installed. It will work fine with the older Acrobat versions.

I don't use the Acrobat drive at all, unless I am printing to create a PDF. Why would you to print from a printer? It would only create a PDF and all my apps and the Mac OS, Mac Print Window PDF button at the bottom, creates their own PDF's. I use the driver for my printer that is used by the OS to set up/create the printer and I have to to access that printer for output. I have since day one and is a constant, even in my Service Bureau days years ago.

But why does Preview, and I have read that others have pointed out that Preview is far more efficient with PDF's, although less feature rich, works better? It prints instantly also.

Fine! I messed the second sentence of my answer up. Dang, I wish I could proof better than I do.

New versions of acrobat won't work correctly with older versions of Adobe
      driver.

------

Is there a newer Driver version for your Printer?

Proper way to Install:

1)Download latest driver version from Manufacturer
2)Go to Printer Utility and delete the current listing, and close.
3)Now install new Driver.
4)Open Printer Utility and look for new printer pick out and choose your Printer
5)Now open whichever Acrobat you have Go to Page Setup and choose your printer.
6)Set up appropriate page orientation.
7)Now click on page attributes ans choose save settings.
8)now open Test document and if Printer is not already listed, choose printer Then set up things such as copies & pages Paper type and so on. When finished click on button with Preset beside it and save as Preset.
9)Now try the document.

Miles ahead of setting up printers that work. As I have said Version 6 and Preview prints PDF's fast and great no matter which OS I use, and I have 10.5.6 and 10.4.11 available now. I noticed that in any OS that V7 & 8 are slow as molasses and 6 reloaded or already there, I keep my apps on a separate partition and keep all that work in the particular OS for instances just like this. I have too much history with variations of this that I know for a fact that it is not a Printer Driver. Otherwise, I should have problems printing everything. That is not the case.

I am just trying to find out if anyone else has had the same experience and had time and need, as I have always had a back up to turn to, to figure this out.

I use to own a service bureau where I had at least 12 different output devices that varied dynamically that taught me well of printer drivers. I have even had drivers written just for me and my needs.
