I just popped into this ng and saw this question, so please don't reply to my comments -- I won't be staying. Stupidly, Adobe creates a subfolder chain a mile long, causing a pathname that is too long for Windows Mobile to process. It would be nice if the software engineers at Adobe put down the doughnuts at their meetings and did something less creative than having dozens of subfolders in their PC/Mac and PPC apps. The easiest solution (and it's not really that easy) is to use a full service utility like SKTools, though you can do it with any Pocket PC Registry editor (if you know how) and File Explorer. I'm short on time, so ask questions to the techs in this forum. With SKTools: 1) Using the 'File Types' tool, make sure the file is associated. If it's not, add the file type ".pdf" (no quotes), and associate it with Adobe Reader. Very simple and quick for that step. The rest is not so easy, but can be accomplished if you know how to do what I am saying here. 2) You must change the folder where the Adobe Reader files are located (\Program Files\Adobe\...) so that the resulting pathname is much shorter -- I used '\Program Files\Adobe\...', eliminating the 'Acrobat 2.0' subfolder, and moved the other subfolders up one level. As it is now, the pathname is too long for Windows Mobile to process. SKTools has a utility that will move an application to a different folder, but you need to check what it does after the move to make sure it did everything. 3) After moving the folders (with SKTools), try to start a .pdf file from File Explorer. If it doesn't work: a) Check the Adobe folders in File Explorer, writing down all the folder names. b) Using a Registry Editor (SKTools has it built in), check everything "Adobe" and "pdf" in HKCR, HKCU and HKLM, making sure the pathnames are correct. Some may not be, so fix them to what you wrote down. MAKE SURE you use quotes around the pathnames, as any spaces in a pathname will cause this not to work. I know, I know... You're welcome, but... It is really easier to just start the Reader and open a file! -- EdNY <m._warner@adobeforums.com> wrote in message news:59b6a531.-1@webcrossing.la2eafNXanI... > I've been trying to associate pdf files so that when I click on them, > adobe reader will be launched automatically, and then open the pdf file. > > There is another thread on here that asks about this too, and the > suggestion was to use a utility like Rescoe Explorer or Tilanosoft Pocket > Tweak. > > Unfortunately, although I've used both apps to associate pdf files with > Adobe Reader, all it does is initially open the acrobat document, but then > clicking on the first page of the document only causes reader to crash. > > So, associating pdf files with reader doesn't work (at least for me).
