Installation on OS X

About a week ago I started having problems with Reader 5.0. I think the problem started when I tried to save some Previews as PDFs. I've found that these Save As's (Preview -> Reader) will hang when opened. I'm guessing this has to do with Distiller. (ie., Since I don't have OS 9 installed, I'm unable to save Previews to PDF's.)

Anyway, now, when I do Get Info on Acrobat, is shows as a Applescript icon. When I tried installing the 5.5 patch, I'm told that a no Acrobat can be found to update.

Thinking Acrobat was currupt, I downloaded 5.0 (for OS X) again and tried to install. Now I get a notice saying that installation can not proceed because there is no System Folder in the Applications Folder.

Anybody have an idea how I can either fix Acrobat, or be allowed to proceed with the new install? BTW, I'm running OS X 10.1.4.

Thanks.
