I have shipped indexed PDFs on CD before, and am getting ready to ship them with an application this time. I don't know how far into the process you are, but one key thing is to launch Acrobat Reader independently, not as a plug-in to Netscape. You can't search with the Netscape plug-in.

I had cross-platform troubles getting the search index to automatically attach when the PDF was opened. I solved that by making the index file name and any directory names in the relative path UPPERCASE. Then they attach OK for either Windows or Solaris.

My biggest frustration right now is that my products are going to support Linux soon, but the Reader for Linux doesn't support the search plug-in.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.
