I experienced the same thing, and found (a little late) that one should remove any other version of Adobe Reader before installing Ver. 8. Also, once you get into this mess you may not be able to delete it from your computer by using the "Add/Delete Programs" capability in the control panel, and running "System Restore" doesn't helpl!! Do Google search for "remove adobe reader 8". I don't feel competent to monkey with my register (which is required) so am avoiding .pfd files on the internet until I can get my computer to the "Geek Squad" to clean it up.
