Point Control slider syntax error

I have an Expression Point Control that I want to control the X and Y separately using two sliders. But this expression doesn't seem to work.
x = effect("x-amount")("Slider")
y = effect("y-amount")("Slider")
[x,y]

Try putting a semi-colon at the end of each line.
