Yeah... I've been gone for way too long... Years ago I was hoping for something like the AA3 SDK's SSF plugin and now its here. Yay \.o./ I have something to do now.

Does anyone know of any SSF plugins for AA3? Any source code for those plugins?

Probably never happen, but what about source code for Audition's .ses format?
Or is that internal? I could always recreate it by writing my own .ses code for my own software (I've done it before), but there are always those bugs that cause problems going back and forth between Audition and my own software. :p

I guess that's my problem though. And if all else fails there is the XML version...

I suspect that the Session Format API is as clear a picture of the structure of the session file as you are going to get from Adobe. :-)

I just hate re-inventing the wheel. :/ It always ends up being twice the work as wholes pop up everywhere... But that's business...

From my first look at the SSF SDK I think there might be enough information there for now though...

As you can see you you need to be pretty spot on fiddling with these session files or it could be like giving someone a labotomy :-)

Yeah... I've had plenty of corrupt session files, but they were all my fault... It would be nice to have some kind of built in revision control so that stuff like that is easier to recover from...

Maybe I'll make a feature request for 'Revision control for sessions'... Actually if the session file were in XML and then split up by track, bus, etc and stuck into a zip file or a sub directory it would allow for really easy revision control ;)

Rock on... That would be easy... And most of the code is already there!

Actually if the session file were in XML

I'm pretty sure you can save your session file as XML?

It would be nice to build components which would allow you to assemble your own sessions. As you say the clues are there (admittedly very similar to the dead sea scrolls) but laziness and lack of time prevents me from doing too much in this area.

I have done some pretty basic work in this area - <http://www.mediasweeper.com.au> but more effort and knowledge could lead to more trinkets and baubles :-)

Yeah. You could probably create something that works on a single file... But if you separate the XML file by track, etc., into separate files you could use the regular 'diff' tools on it and it would be easy to apply true revision control. You could have people editing different tracks of a single session over a network and those changes could be added into the main project through patches. And later you could go back and undo changes on individual pieces... Kind of like a perpetual undo feature...

Actually I knew you had something to do with media sweeper... I've used it before and it does the job... Thanks for that tool btw ;) Any source code?

I'd suggest a collaberative project, but to be honest I've been pretty busy with this stupid data entry stuff and I'm not that familiar with windows gui programming... I'm good at working with the unknown and using hex editors in my spare time though...

Oh yeah... Here is a question maybe only Adobe can answer... I don't have AA3 here on this computer so I can't be sure, but if AA3 uses an SSF plug-in for the .ses files... Would it be possible or even legal to use that plug-in in third-party software (used from AA installation and not redistributed of course)? or is it internal like I suspect?

I'm pretty sure its internal. Like yourself time is the biggest problem - I just don't have the time to dedicate to the analysis, experimentation, build and testing for all but the most essential of projects :-(

You definitely can in AA3.0!
