Friends. Got a neat trick to get around the slow response of loading VST plugins and an efficient way to test VSTs without having to refresh the directories with each new plugin. Went through Guru Ozpeters list of plugins and experienced that with each added plugin, the response time got worse until I could initiate the plugin, down a cold sterno and watch the sunset before the plugin loaded. Major time burner and understood why pruning was necessary beyond fundamental quality issues. You can rapidly load VSTs by wrapping them as direct x plugins. New VSTs can also be quickly trialed without having to refresh the VST folder each time. Download the free VST wrapper VSXlite.exe from www.spinaudio.com. May help to rename the VST library files (*.dll) to something that is descriptive or recognizable. The freeware version only wraps one VST at a time, but after installing the wrapper, the wrapper shows up in the direct x directory as a direct x plugin and retains the last searched directory. Select the plugin (VST-DX Wrapper ver 1.0), select the VST directory, and open the VST as a direct x plugin. The extra step is rewarded by a major time saving in VST response with no degradation in the conversion. New VST plugins can be downloaded into a safe temporary directory where they can be tested quickly without directory refresh, before being transferred to the main VST folder. This way, suspicion about crashes related to a defective plugin or general quality can be analyzed, one plugin at a time, without going comatose staring at the VST refresh progress bar being stuck at 98% for eons. That sounds like a neat trick. I'll set this thread to not expire - thanks!
