At a first guess:
you are recording from one (1) input, either microphone or instrument. Since that is a single signal, it can only make one track. In other words, everything is working properly. You should be recording to a mono track. This will play back through both speakers if set up normally.

If you are monitoring directly from the interface, either it does not have a mono switch, to put the one input channel on both output channels (a very common lack), or you donοΏ½t have it set correctly. Quite possibly there is no solution except something between that box and your speakers that will distribute the single channel to both sides.

What happens when you play back a stereo recording (extract a track from CD if you have nothing else)? If you get the proper output in both channels, output set up is probably fine.
