Hey Folks,

I'm putting together and mixing tracks from original master tapes circa 1966-1970. I've dumped each individual track down to Audition 1.0, during playback of the vocal tracks I noticed a few instances of a terrible sibilance the male lead voice. I have tried for days to rid myself of this sibilant S and I cant get rid of it. I believe extreme compression settings were used on the lead vocal tracks driving it into the limiting range causing the sibilance to be within the same decibel range as the rest of the vocal take.

Any help/suggestion are welcome. The decibel boost on the sibilant frequency range is around the 7 decibel mark from 5k to 8k.

I have tried Waves C1 (direct x) with de-ess settings and fiddling from there but I can only seem to compress a narrow range of frequency i.e. 6.5k to 7k. I also have Waves C4 but absolutely can not get it to compress/limit the frequency ranges I set it to.

Thanks,
Timothy.
