I've been using a LaCie FW drive - 180Gb?? - for some months and, well, it works. I get the feeling that these things are really a matter of pure luck - you hear of some people having problems, and equally of others who are entirely happy. Of course, far more people go on the net and complain than those who say "it works"!

The only drives I've had trouble with in the last five years were laptop drives in a far-too-thin laptop, where I'd guess overheating would have been a factor. In that case, one was 2Gb (yes, really) and the replacement was 10Gb. Now I've replaced the whole thing.
