Well, one thing Roger mentions is to use a quality tube mic for recording into Audition to get a warm sound....warm in, warm out !! Soooo, yesterday, I went out and bought a Marshall MXL V-69 Tube Mic per this advice....excellent advice !! I'm getting great sounding recordings with the checks I've done so far.... I'd also recommend using a good pre-amp. I'm using an old Tubessence model 107 and it's doing a good job.
