A Buzz That I can't Get Rid Of

I've recently set up a podcast studio in my office and everything seems to be working correctly, except for a constant buzz that I get automatically when I open Audition. This buzz records at about ten decibels, and I can't figure out why it is there. I can reduce it's impact through noise reductions, but it still affects the sound quality.

I've plugged my mixer into a power source by itself, turned every level low, but the same thing keeps happening. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? It seems like a stereotypical problem, but I couldn't find a cure myself. Thanks.

We will need to know a lot more about how your system is connected, what soundcard and PC you are using before we have any hope of suggesting a cure.

My apologies to you for not clearing that up. I posted a first topic right before this and failed to go through the correct process while typing this post up.

I have a powerpod mixer with four inputs hooked up to my Windows XP OS with a SoundMAX Digital Audio Device. It's some sort of an internal buzz, it continues when all levels are muted. Everything seems to be connected properly. It's just that I can't get this damn sound right.

I hope this clears matters up a bit.

Is it a laptop or desktop PC? Some combinations of laptop and their power supplies can cause earth loop problems with external powered devices.

That's an internal sound chip...

Yes it is an internal sound chip. Currently, all purchases are on hold and it is unlikely I'll be able to get a decent sound card. So, am I stuck with this buzz because of this low-caliber equipment? Or is there any way to restore a crisp sound without purchasing a sound card?

If it's a laptop, then try running off batteries. If that alters the level at least, then it's ryclark's power supply problem. If it's a desktop machine, then you need to look carefully at the grounding arrangements of all of the equipment you are using - and I have to warn you that these problems can sometimes be right sods to sort out.
