      Am I correct that if nothing else is done these fonts will be available
      only to the CS2 applications?




Correct. Fonts in Application Support > Adobe > Fonts will only be seen by the CS and CS2 applications. To make them available to other apps, move them to the other paths you mentioned.

You must leave the Reqd folder or some of your CS2 apps will NOT open!
