Post this in the Illustrator Mac forum for best results.

Make sure you first try deleting Illustrator's preferences. Hold down Command+Option+Shift immediately after launching Illustratpr

Try (1) closing down all your fonts but the essential, or (2) launching Illustrator in a new user account. The first option deals with possible corrupted fonots. The second deals with possible corrupted preferences and cache files in your system.
