drag and drop picture clipping

In my workflow I use a variety of graphic elements which are used repeatedly in different art files, ie: a recycle symbol. In Ill 8 I would creat the master symbol and then drag it to the desktop, creating a picture clipping of that symbol. Then when needed, I could just drag the clip into my working art file and it would appear exactly as created, intact. With the advent of CS, I updated my clippings to CS and everything has been hunky-dory until now. Now when I creat a new clip and drag it back into CS, it comes in with many more anchor points and it looks rough. VERY rough. My clips that I updated are still fine, its just newly created ones that go wonky. Anyone have an idea what might be going on? Thanks for the help.
