Any Experience with VC on a High-Reliability Configuration?

I would like to run VC on a pair of XServs (OS X Server 10.5.5). These are configured for automatic failover (if the 1st XServe goes down the second XServ grabs its IP address and continues operation uninterrupted). The data is stored on a SAN connected to the XServs via Fiber Channel. I'm working with the version of VC that comes with CS3. Setting up VC on the second XServ it became apparent that VC was not created with this type of configuration in mind, but I hope it may be possible to move files around manually to get a working configuration. What I'm worrying about is if VC maintains all information about files in its data directory or if it keeps some of this on the local drive. If it keeps some information on the local drive it obviously won't work in a failover situation. I tried moving VC's Application Support directory to the SAN using a symlink, but VC does not respect the symlink. VC fails to start when I'm using the symlink. (I had thought that symlinks were an operating system function so VC would not see that I've moved the directory, but apparently not.) So does anybody know if any of VC's local files are necessary for tracking the operation of the server? Or does VC keep everything it needs in the data directory so things can keep on ticking after a failover.
