Hi All,

I have a PSCS4 license, but this does not seem to include the version cue server, which would be helpful for my workflow.

What is the cheapest (and legal) way for me to get this software? Do I have to buy a Adobe Design license (which I dont need otherwise)?

Is there alternative software I can consider?

Many Thanks
johan

Hi Johan,
unfortunately only having a Suite installer availabale will let you get the Version Cue Server on your machines.
It cannot be purchased standalone.
And I am not aware of any alternative with versioning and the ability to see thumbnails of versions. And with integration into Adobe products

Hi Markus
What's the reasoning behind this? This a SERVER product, not something you'd want to run on a production machine as that defeats the purpose of handing off the management of the files to the server.
Previous editions at least had a free SDK version. Add this to the far worse work flow, total lack of integration with Bridge (how do I see previous versions of Documents in Bridge now - without this what is the point of versioning?), lack of local machine saving of the cache files.

Nobody external seems to think this is an improvement so was any UAT done? Seriously?

Hi S Hird,
every user of a point product like Photoshop can access a Version Cue server if the server is available on the net.
But the server was always shipped with the suites only.
That means having one suite installed with the server and maybe hundreds of single app installations, will enable all users to access this one server.
The access to the VC CS4 server is given by Adobe Drive CS4 (and still is given via the open/save dialog and Bridge for CS3 apps).
And Drive CS4 is part of PS, ID IC, FL and AI standalone installer too.

By the way, the SDK always needed a real server installed to be used. So even if developing SDK functionality a server installation is needed.

Silvano gai,
you need an Creative Suite installer for WIN.
It is possible to install the server standalone, but you need the suite.
Version Cue is only available for the same platform as the rest of the suite you bought.

I have the CS3 suite both from MAC and Wimndows.
I bought the upgrade to CS4 for MAC.

Are you telling me that I need to buy the upgrade also for Windows just to use the cue server? Or that I need to replace the server with a MAC?
It is not that I am using more servers or more clients, why should I pay more licenses?

Does the cue server CS4 serve CS3 clients?

Thanks

Yes, the CS4 server does serve CS3 clients. On the other hand are CS4 clients not able to see the CS3 server and to use it.
Since the server is part of the suite a CS4 WIN installer is needed to run Version Cue CS4 on WIn, as I mentioned.
