I need to know something. I am interested in knowing whether or not I can create small time 'user' accounts on VersionCue CS4. These people will not have Acrobat but will have the Reader. I tried enabling the commenting feature but it appears that it still does not let editing or Review. Do you need Acrobat?

Let me be more specific:

Adobe Reader (standalone) can comment on the documents created under Acrobat with the commenting feature turned on. However, this feature does not appear in the Safari plug in. The commenting feature is not there. A friend of mine found similar results in XP. Meaning Reader just can't load the commenting as a plugin.

When I try to load it with the plugin in Safari, I get this error message:

"This document is not enabled for review in Adobe Reader."

Anybody got some solutions. It seems odd that Adobe would require possible reviewers to shell out $300 / a piece.

As of version CS3, Adobe Reader comments and VC CS3 acrobat professional comments were unrelated, sadly. In Reader, the comments ride with the document, have to be enabled by Acrobat Professional, and can be edited by anyone with Reader or Professional. In VC CS3 PDF review, commenting can be enabled without Acrobat Professional, but cannot be used by anyone without both Acrobat Professional and an account on the VC CS3 server.

gotcha. How about CS4? From testing a friend's system...it doesn't appear that this was remedied. Can somebody contest otherwise?

No word yet? It appears (rather sadly) that Version Cue will not serve as a PDF Review server, where one can add accounts for their clients and get comments sent directly to the local server. If someone can disprove this claim, I await my correction.
