Using CS4 applications with Version Cue CS3

We are initiating a project to setup a number of image catalogs using Version Cue and primarily Bridge.

We were initially looking to use Version Cue CS4 and Bridge CS4 with the possibility in the future that we may also use other CS4 apps to integrate with the Version Cue server, however after having a look through the forums here there seems to be a lot of issues with Version Cue CS4 compared to the previous version.

Is anyone currently running or had experience running Version Cue CS3 but using CS4 apps to access it? I'm just wondering whether this may be a suitable route to take until Adobe sort out the major issues with Version Cue CS4.

Thanks,

Alan.

Hi Alan,

Our studio was for a short time before we "upgraded" to CS4.

Basically, the CS4 apps are unaware of VC CS3, so it requires that everything be done manually: sync and checkin.... sync (using Bridge CS3) will pull the top versions to the local drive (something CS4 should have kept); then the user works on them using the CS4 apps and saves the progress to the local drive; then the user must enter bridge (CS3, not CS4), and resync to send up any versions to VC CS3 server.

We would downgrade if we could (if we could import the live jobs from VC CS4 to the CS3 VC server) even though using it in this configuration would be a bit more difficult than CS3/VC-CS3. ... don't know if Adobe is even working to fix VC CS4.

For doing it manually you can use Bridge CS4 too.
Same way to handle it there.

The issues are not really about the server (even though people might think so), the server did not change much.
Complains are more about the Drive and you can use a CS3 client to connect to the CS4 server. That does work as before incl. local repository, but not vice versa.
CS4 apps will not be recognized as managed on a CS3 server.
Those will be treated as simple third party files. Just because the old server does not know the new file formats.
So there you need to do check out first, edit the files, save them and check them back via context menu in filesystem (Explorer / Finder) or use Bridge CS4 to do so.
