howdy

when one drags/copies files to the version cure server - is it simply creating links inside the version cue server to the files that remain outside the server or is it actually copying the entire file into version cue server?

thanks in advance

angus

It's creating copies.

Hi Angus,

are you working on Version Cue CS4?

When you drag a file to a mounted Adobe Drive Volume, it doesn't copy the file to the server but only to the local cache of your workstation.

You can't see this file on the server volume from another workstation.

You have to "check in" this file via the context menu "Other/Adobe Drive CS4/Check in" (Mac). After that it is really copied to the server.

Be advised, when you want to edit a file which is already on the server (and checked-in), you have to check it out first.

If you are in supported CS4 applications like InDesign, PSD, InCopy and so on, you do not need to do this step. There you can "check in" or "check out" the file directly in application menu.

Hope this helps.

great thanks for the info. would I be correct in saying that version cue is more for print and web (illustrator, photoshop, in design) than for video using adobe production studio? eg after effects, premiere pro, encore etc

Hi Angus,
yes, you're right, Version Cue is much more for print & design & web purposes.
