In the never ending quest for pdf creation speed, it was decided to try loading ADS on a new server (originally purposed as a sql server machine, but may be the new ADS machine, if testing goes well) to see what kind of performance gain we'd get.

ADS was loaded on the server. The asp files were copied to the server, along with all applicable psd's and fonts.

So, at this point, I change my calling code to point to the new machine, but I receive an IIS timeout. I double check permissions, they seem to be the same on both servers. Next, I change the convertRasterToPDF line, removing the out="result", and I add a <saveContent name="name.pdf"> tag.

I still get the timeout, but when it times out, the pdf is placed on the file system. I'm able to open it without errors and the fonts are correct.

I don't understand what the hold up is. Since it's exactly the same code being processed, I seems it must be something with the configuration of the new server. My code never gets past:

Set theResponse = theServer.Execute(theRequest)

for some reason. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks,
Nathan

There's a preference buried someplace deep in the IIS control panel that controls the ASP timeout. By default it's set to a small number for typical Web page use and is too short to allow processing of large files. I can never find it because it's buried 3 or 4 layers deep.

I'd Google for: ASP timeout and the OS version you're using

That was what I missed, thanks for your assistance. It's still slow, but at least something shows up ;)

For the record:

Windows 2000

- Right Click and choose Properties of your virtual directory or the default web site, depending on set up.

- Select the Virtual Directory or Home Directory tab (depending on now it's set up)

- Select the 'Configuration...' button.

- Next, select the 'App Options' tab

- Finally, change the App Script Timeout textbox (default is 90 sec) and Apply.

Now I can focus on speeding it up (and switching to using the web service).

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.
