Overwrite form values in the pdf result

Hi there,

I am using ADS to generate a pdf file. I am merging some pdfs and working with fdf content to fill the values. The final result is a pdf that the users can view with the Adobe Acrobat (not the reader) embedded in the browser.

It works fine, but I have a problem when I try to overwrite SOME of the values of the inputs in the final document. When I modify them, I can see the new value and the old value, as if the old value was "painted" in the final pdf. Some of the fields I can modify with no problem though.

I have compared the fields of the original pdf template and they look exactly the same (only the name is different). The background process to add values to the fields is exactly the same for all of them.

Any idea where I can look for?

thanks a lot

Based mostly on one word above: "painted", I'd guess that the form field is being flattened.
- if you are using overlayTemplates, it flattens all form fields before overlaying.
- there could be other things in your XML that's doing a flatten

If it's not clear where the flatten is happening, try saving out interim results to narrow things down.

That is what I think. But I do not understand when that is done. I am using the exact same process for two similar pdf templates. These two templates have a header with the exact same fields. The result is different. Using one form, I can modify the values on my final pdf and the values get changed. Using the other form, i always see the old value after any modification. The new value is overwritting the old one so i can see both.

The only difference I found is that the limit of characters of the field properties is defined for the 'working' pdf field on and not defined for the 'non working' pdf field. I changed that on the non working pdf, saved, tried and still not working.

Do you know if there are some hidden field definition I can compare for both documents?

btw, thanks a lot for your help. I do appreciate it.

I don't have any good suggestions. There aren't any hidden properties for fields

- double check the problem form and make sure that fields didn't get duplicated on top of each other somehow
- were the forms created with the same tool? Are they the same version of PDF?
Acrobat File Menu > Document Properties > Description
      PDF Producer
      PDF version
- Check both forms for JavaScript that might be causing the problem
