Patrice,

As I understand things, this particular forum is not intended for specific product questions, and I think it is good to have such a forum. I also think that a person with a specific product question is much better served by posting that question in the appropriate forum and not here. Neither of these two things means that people posting product questions here should be treated rudely; I gave reasons for a minimum of courtesy in my message immediately before yours. They also do not mean that anyone doing anything beyond directing the poster to the product forums should be penalized.

I think we should all try to send posters of products questions to the appropriate forums in a polite way, preferably also providing link(s); this should hopefuly help that person to use these forums more productively in the future. I don't think this excludes completely the possibility of giving partial answers; Dave's second version in his last message (plus a link!; let's not forget that anyone posting product questions here is lost) seems just perfect for my taste.

Also, if someone posts a full answer to a product question here, we should try to politely remind that person that product questions are not to be answered here. Answering here may solve the specific problem the poster has now, but will not help him/her to obtain rapid help when in trouble again. And may prevent others from reading that answer, because it is not posted in the specific forum for that product.

In short: in my opinion, what I think is lacking here is more politeness. And I'm not saying that I always follow my own reccommendations.
