Inline Text Style

I am crafting a brochure that requires Inline heading text style unique from normal text. Every time I change one style it overtakes the whole paragraph. Ex:

This is an inline style - This is the text paragraph.

I need "this is an inline style" to be a unique font, colored, bold - "This is the text paragraph" is normal black text. When I create an inline style and apply it, it changes the whole paragraph, likewise when I apply the text style. What am I missing. I am in desperate need of this information.

I am using Adobe Pagemaker 6 on Windows XP, desktop computer with a HP Photosmart printer. I have gigahertz of memory and have recently done a defrag and installed new Norton Antivirus. Please I need this information.

You should post this in the PageMaker_Windows forum.

Hi Dave, I thought that's where I was, in the Pagemaker message forum?

Gail, before you leave, can you tell us how you got here? Maybe there is a bad link that needs to be fixed to point to the correct forum.

Thanks!

I've been chastised before for helping folks who wandered in here, but, doggone it, I'd like to see warmer welcomes, even if people aren't in the 'right' place.

I opened up the Adobe help link and wandered around. First, Ramon I thought I was in the correct forum. I clicked on Adobe Pagemaker whatever and it put me into a list to choose from, I clicked on Pagemaker 6 and it put me into a FAQ list no help unless I pay $99 for technical assistance. Thought I would exhaust help from a 'forum', but I felt like I stepped into a hornets nest. If you don't get enough forum people, should think you would treat visitors with a little decorum.

Thank you Boone, it was an honest mistake - never thought I would get chastised for asking a desperate question. I posted my question on the link one of you gave me and I have had no responses. I have been running into dead ends with this damn brochure. I will be on my way. And you should listen to Boone, I did not mean to intrude, just needed some assistance. Fairwell, you won't hear from me again, unless I stumble and fall down the well again. See ya.

I guess we are doing something wrong. Perhaps politeness has become an obsolete concept?

Claudio,

I guess we are doing something wrong.

Like posting in the wrong forum and throwing a tantrum when post #1 directs you to the right location?

Perhaps politeness has become an obsolete concept?

Politeness would also include reading the description of a forum before posting, as well as expressing some kind of appreciation for being pointed in the right direction.

If you realize it, it cannot be obsolete. Take care - got to get to work.

By the way, Gail did get a helpful reply in the PageMaker Windows forum, with the exact information she needed. Not being a Windows user myself, and not having used the PageMaker dinosaur since it was an Aldus application, I was not in a position to offer any further help myself. The moment she posted in the right forum Gail received a reply directly on point.

Dorothy and John, Thank you. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I am in the middle of newsletter and not having fun. Do not really want to update at this time. I only use Pagemaker for Yoga newsletter and need to get through this before I make any program changes. Not sure what effect updating would have on work already completed/started. I probably should update to Adobe Inline. Adobe has an update 701a for Pagemaker. Leary about updating in the middle of something. Once again, thank you both for the information. Regards.

Yes we are doing something wrong. I knew perfectly well that what Gail was asking for was not possible (without manual intervention for each instance); I also knew that this is one of the features of InDesign.

So, the strong insistence people have in this forum that under no circumstances do you do anything more than point people at the right place to ask caused me to cut short my response (I was the first responder) -- I could have warned Gail that what she wanted wasn't supported by PageMaker.

Then there's the whole issue of telling PageMaker people that InDesign does what they want. Every time you say that to a PageMaker person you risk being cut off at the knees, so I was further inhibited.

But it does seem to me that my original answer could have been:

You should post this in the PageMaker_Windows forum, but be warned that you're not going to like the answers because the feature doesn't exist (although you can manually achieve the effect fairly easily).

Dave,

I wouldn't even dream about suggesting you change your behaviour, God bless you; we need more people like you around here. What I think we are doing wrong is just telling people "your post doesn't belong here, post in the right forum". I try to always give a link to the right forum, but cannot guarantee that I always do it. I find this is a minimum courtesy for someone who is usually desperately looking for urgent help, in a collection of forums he/she is visiting for the first time, who doesn't know how he/she got to this particular one, doesn't understand where he/she is, ... and of course didn't read any of the blurb in the upper part of the page.

I wonder how many of us "regulars" can swear they haven't missed anything changed up there, or added in the FAQs, in the last three months. I can't; it would be a lie.
