Hi Chris... Users can save a structured FM file in an invalid state, just as you can if you are editing raw XML .. sometimes it is needed if you need to save a file while editing, but you're not quite done. Depending on whether you are storing your files as FM or XML, there are ways to enforce a DTD. If you're storing the files as XML, you can require a "check-in" process that validates the file against the DTD, or if you store the files as FM, you can require that the users validate the files and clear all "special cases". Either of these methods can be automated so they are "really" enforced if you can't rely on the writers to follow the plan. You can also have a regular (daily, weekly, ??) "validation" process that does this and flags any invalid files. Or if you want to spend some bucks, you can use an XML database that enforces valid files upon check-in. Cheers! ...scott
