We have an environment in which a mind-boggling number of document configurations are required. (Different purchase options and lots of customization for the client.) Maybe FrameMaker can handle 99 conditions, but the human mind can't. That said, our company has adopted a business model in which over 100 document configurations will one day be required.

With our deadlines, we need the ability for multiple writers to work in the same document at the same time. The Vasont content management system (CMS) allows you to go from a "physical" document to a virtual document scenario (much like FrameMaker's virtual books). Each Frame doc. becomes a configuration of elements that must conform to your structure. FrameMaker remains the writing and editing tool, but the document configuration (links to individual elements) is managed by the underlying CMS.

Essentially, we're going from a conditional document scenario to a multiple configuration scenario. Writers will see only the configuration they create, although most elements (80% or better) are reused in multiple documents.
